Meeting with Nancy Noble

Today, Professor Nancy Noble subbed for Professor Gomes. We went over the "Day in Our Life" Persona Scenarios with our groups. After class, she offered to give feedback to students who wanted them.

Noble offered excellent feedback, telling me to narrow it down and not to make any generalized assumptions. After discussing with her the issues of sorting at Stonestown she told me to phrase my problem like this:

"Customers who frequent Stonestown (you can change it later) may not be aware of zero waste in San Francisco that is currently in use."

And to phrase my purpose system like:

"The purpose of this study was to develop or create a system that will spread awareness of the importance of zero waste."

She also told me because Stonestown was so close to campus, it would be too easy and to get out of our comfort zones and find a place new and a little farther away.

05: Library Resources

Today we learned how to use SFState's library as a means of finding great resources for our 505 project. Its kind of a terrible shame that the summer before I part ways with the school is when I find out about ARTstor. Better make use of it (for free) while I still can!

02: Finding a problem

Today in class, we did sort of a speed run on the process of design. I actually had to do the same thing for an internship I'm currently in but our focus was on the problems and process of "gift giving".

My partner for this project was Shao Yi and it was really nice getting to know her and hear her story. The problem I eventually came to discover with her was learning English. I found that one of the solutions she seemed to lean towards was good television shows to help with this.

The solution I came up with a 'television' with software that can dub and provide subtitles for any other show or film in another language that isn't English. This way, she can enjoy some of her old favorites or watch an English program with subtitles for her to associate the words with and will eventually, improve her knowledge of the language.

Iiiii actually forgot to turn this in last week so I still have it with me ahaha...

01: Introduction

1) Who are YOU? (Your DAI Major Study/Emphasis/Concentration; Interests; etc…)
I am Rebekah. I am a Visual Communication major. I enjoy reading, taking naps, making things, animanga,  videogames, and eating.

I would've liked psychology to be my minor but woe is I as SFState hasn't been offering it for some time now. I found about sociology department a little late too. Speaking of late, I also was hoping to even have Japanese as a minor but what with class availability and whatnot, it didn't seem feasible within a year. Of course, its not like I can't study these things independently or in the future so nothing to fear!

Part of deciding my major actually involved a bit of soul searching. I was initially a Pre-Nursing major since I was still unsure what to do with my life and well you'll earn lots of money. But I've hit many roadblocks as the two of us were simply not compatible. I was then going to decide on Psychology as my major but there was a waiting list at the time and as I thought about it, the career options that were generally achievable with a Psych degree weren't really my cup of tea. So I looked around some more and discovered Visual Communication. Since I declared it two years ago, as cheesy as this sounds, I've never felt truer to myself, even if I have a long ways to go. But hey, I've made it this far! ∀( ̄▽ ̄)∀

2) What Inspires/”WOWs” YOU? (provide an “inspirational” Quote)
Thought-provoking stories and design that aid/provoke introspection.
" It doesn't take much to turn impossible into 'I'm possible' " - Gitaroo Man
" Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. " - Theodore Geisel
3) Who, or what are your influences?
One of my biggest influences graphic design wise would be Tuly and Kat of 99mockingbirds

4) What is your Vision or HOPE in your life(time)? (academically; professionally; and/or socially)
I would be able to create art and design that would entertain, uplift,  and/or create change to a better future for everyone.

Professionally, I do hope to be involved with the game industry one day. I feel that gameplay is a wonderful way to utilize so many things from design, entertainment, and contrary to popular opinion, inspire (as few and far in between they can be).

I do hope one day I will be good enough to be an illustrator as well.

5) Post image(s) that best represents YOU and/or your Vision(s)

6) Provide Six (6) “Key Words” that best describe YOU
Silly, strange, sleepy, dreamer, imaginative, introvert
