I am Rebekah. I am a Visual Communication major. I enjoy reading, taking naps, making things, animanga, videogames, and eating.
Part of deciding my major actually involved a bit of soul searching. I was initially a Pre-Nursing major since I was still unsure what to do with my life and well you'll earn lots of money. But I've hit many roadblocks as the two of us were simply not compatible. I was then going to decide on Psychology as my major but there was a waiting list at the time and as I thought about it, the career options that were generally achievable with a Psych degree weren't really my cup of tea. So I looked around some more and discovered Visual Communication. Since I declared it two years ago, as cheesy as this sounds, I've never felt truer to myself, even if I have a long ways to go. But hey, I've made it this far! ∀( ̄▽ ̄)∀
2) What Inspires/”WOWs” YOU? (provide an “inspirational” Quote)
Thought-provoking stories and design that aid/provoke introspection.

" It doesn't take much to turn impossible into 'I'm possible' " - Gitaroo Man
" Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. " - Theodore Geisel
3) Who, or what are your influences?
4) What is your Vision or HOPE in your life(time)? (academically; professionally; and/or socially)
I would be able to create art and design that would entertain, uplift, and/or create change to a better future for everyone.
Professionally, I do hope to be involved with the game industry one day. I feel that gameplay is a wonderful way to utilize so many things from design, entertainment, and contrary to popular opinion, inspire (as few and far in between they can be).
I do hope one day I will be good enough to be an illustrator as well.

6) Provide Six (6) “Key Words” that best describe YOU
Silly, strange, sleepy, dreamer, imaginative, introvert
Thank you for the insight and references to what drives and inspires your creative being. Very resourceful use of "99 Mockingbirds"
ReplyDeleteKnow of the source, but have not delved into is features
Hi Rebekah! It was great getting to know more about who you are and your academic/design interests! Its a shame you weren't able to minor in something of your interest :(
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for linking to 99 Mockingbirds, hadn't heard of it before and it seems to have lots of interesting content/design inspiration!
Hey Rebekah! I'm sorry you couldn't finish your Japanese minor. I would've done it with you but switched to AAS. Haha sorry! But uh, I agree with 99mockingbirds. It seems interesting. Oh! And your images and visions that represent you, that super mario old school rpg game, awesome. :)
ReplyDeleteHello! What a coincidence! My first major is psychology and I think we probably came to the same conclusion and decided to go for design. It's a feeling of being proactive with creating something rather than studying theories that led me to search for something more and I can tell that's what brought you here as well. I was curious though, why viscom and not animation? (if our school even offers it)
ReplyDeleteI kind of had to search where I actually wanted to invest my studies into as well. DAI just seemed the place where you can show your creativity and directly push for your audience to feel a certain kind of emotion. I'm confident that you'll create art and design that makes some sort of change for the benefit of enhancing people's lives. :) You've already come so far, and there's no reason why you can't keep challenging yourself as you're doing now.
ReplyDeleteRebekah, you have the innovation and creativity to do whatever you set your mind to. In the past classes we have had together your quirkiness has come through in your design and it's awesome.
ReplyDeleteHI, I looked into your influences... very interesting. They have lots of stuff to look at and keep a fresh eye. On another topic, gaming sure is popular now, and your in a great location to try and break into it. game designer, illustrator, they'd probably fit well together.
